New members, chair named to STCC Board of Trustees

The Springfield Technical Community College Board of Trustees recently welcomed two new members and a new chair, Mary Catherine “Marikate” Murren. The new members are Jynai S. McDonald, of Springfield, who was appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker in June, and Yanira Aviles, of Springfield, who was elected by the student body in April.

STCC offers opportunities with Health-Career Exploration Series

Anyone who has thought about becoming a health-care professional won’t want to miss the STCC to Health-Career Exploration Series happening Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. Springfield Technical Community College’s School of Health & Patient Simulation kicked off the series with the first event on Oct. 2. Other dates for the series are Oct. 30 and Nov. 6, 12:15 p.m.-1:15 p.m., in Building 20.

STCC to feature poet Denice Frohman as part of Diversity Series

Springfield Technical Community College announces a talk by Denice Frohman, an award-winning poet, performer and educator. Frohman, a spoken word artist and LGBTQ advocate, will perform at STCC’s Scibelli Hall Theater on Oct. 7, 11:15 a.m. Her talk is part of the Diversity Speaker and Performance Series at STCC. The event is free and open to the public.

The 189 new U.S. citizens who participated in a naturalization ceremony on the grounds of the Springfield Armory on Sept. 17 included Donald Israel, a Springfield Technical Community College student. He left Haiti seven years ago with a dream of getting an affordable education and finding a pathway to a better life.

Professional craft brewing course returns to STCC

Springfield Technical Community College will offer a professional craft brewing certificate class that blends online studies with hands-on laboratory work, with the focus on science and technology. The Workforce Development Center at STCC has designed the hybrid class for anyone who wants to brew beer at home or would like a career in the fast-growing craft beer industry.
