STCC launches donation initiatives for the holiday season
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – From toys for children to clothing for veterans, Springfield Technical Community College has launched efforts to make the holiday season brighter for those in need.
- Toys for Children (Student Activities): The Student Activities Office at STCC and the Children’s Study Home of Springfield, a nonprofit organization supporting children and families, are collecting new unwrapped toys for children in need (ages infant to 18 years old). Anyone can drop off donations in the Office of Student Activities, Ira H. Rubenzahl Student Learning Commons, First Floor, or in the President’s Office, Garvey Hall, Room 237. This is the third year the Student Activities Office has collected toys for children. “We are thrilled to help out the Children’s Study Home with their annual Secret Santa program,” said Jessica Hill, interim vice president of student affairs. “I’m proud of our generous faculty, staff and students at STCC who are helping to make the holidays brighter for children in need.”
- Toys for Tots (Campus Police): STCC Police is seeking donations for Toys for Tots. Stop by the police station in Building 9 to leave a gift. The toys must be new and unwrapped, and gifts for all ages up to 18 are accepted.
- Donations for Veterans (Office of Veterans' Affairs): STCC’s Office of Veterans’ Affairs also is in the midst of a charitable effort to help the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. The Soldiers’ Home needs basic necessities such as socks, sweatshirts and sweatpants, body wash and lotion and other toiletries. Drop off donations at the Ira H. Rubenzahl Student Learning Commons, Building 19, Room 153; Building 20, Room 302; or Building 13, Faculty Lounge. Monetary gifts also are accepted. Donations will be collected until Dec. 19.
- Holiday Party for Children (WTCC): The college’s radio station, WTCC (90.7 FM), will hold its annual Holiday Party for Children on Dec. 14 at STCC from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. The party, which is sponsored by Toys for Tots, is for children in need who are between ages 3 to 12 years old. They must be pre-registered and accompanied by an adult to attend. Children will get to meet Santa, eat pizza and cake and enjoy age-appropriate activities. Each child will receive gifts. To register a child, call Marlo McCants at (413) 364-3550.
