STCC announces celebration of the Class of 2020

Springfield Technical Community College will hold a “Celebration of the Class of 2020,” a virtual event that will be streamed online Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. The college encourages family and friends of graduates to watch the event on STCC’s website, stcc.edu. In addition to the online celebration, STCC has invited every Class of 2020 graduate to participate in the college’s June 3, 2021, commencement ceremony.

STCC names Darcey Kemp as vice president of Student Affairs

Springfield Technical Community College has named a higher education administrator from New York as vice president of Student Affairs. Darcey Kemp of Ghent, N.Y., began her new post on April 27. She had served as the assistant vice president for Student Development, Leadership, and Completion Initiatives at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. since 2015.

STCC graduate named to BusinessWest’s ‘40 Under Forty’ list

Dan Holmes, a Springfield Technical Community College graduate, was named one of BusinessWest’s “40 Under Forty,” a list of young, up-and-coming leaders in the community. Holmes, 37, who graduated from STCC in 2003, works as senior project manager for Tighe & Bond, an engineering and environmental consulting business in Westfield.

STCC Theater Workshop goes online for spring plays

At a time of social distancing, Springfield Technical Community College Theater Workshop will perform three plays, with students acting out their parts from their homes in front of their computers. The plays will be available for viewing on STCC's Facebook page on May 15.

Springfield Technical Community College is seeking help for students affected by the COVID-10 pandemic on #GivingTuesdayNow. #GivingTuesdayNow, a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, is an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The effort is in addition to the regularly scheduled #GivingTuesday on Dec. 1, 2020.

The courses can be completed from home to help workers and job-seekers enhance their skills and become more competitive candidates in the job market.

STCC nursing student ready to step up to COVID-19 challenges

Springfield Technical Community College nursing student Monica Aldrich is no stranger to working on the front lines during a pandemic. Aldrich has served as a firefighter-paramedic for the town of Amherst for the past 14 years. She will graduate in May 2020 and hopes to find work as a nurse.

The college selected Tracey McKethan, program chair and professor of Health Information Technology, as the 2020 Joseph J. Deliso Sr. Endowed Chair. John Wakelin, chair of Digital Media Production and faculty member, was chosen as 2020 Anthony M. Scibelli Endowed Chair.

Nursing Schools Almanac ranks STCC 2-year program among top

The nursing program at Springfield Technical Community College is among the top 10 two-year programs in Massachusetts, according to Nursing Schools Almanac. The program at STCC was ranked in list of the Best Associate Degree in Nursing Programs in Massachusetts: 2020 Rankings.

STCC Respiratory Care program lends ventilators to hospitals

Springfield Technical Community College’s Respiratory Care program is lending its five ventilators to area hospitals preparing for a surge in patients due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Christopher Scott, dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation, said STCC is prepared to donate or lend any equipment hospitals need during the coronavirus emergency. The school recently donated all of its personal protective equipment to area hospitals, medical centers and first responders.
