Dell Technologies professionals to share insight into STEM careers
SPRINGFIELD, Mass – As part of Mass STEM Week 2020, Springfield Technical Community College on Friday will host a live virtual event titled “Exploring Tech Careers with Dell Professionals.”
Dell Technologies professionals from backgrounds underrepresented in STEM careers will talk with STCC students about what drew them to science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM). Speakers include engineers and Latino employee resource group members from Dell's EMC campus in Hopkinton.
The event will be held live through Zoom videoconferencing. Register in advance and learn more by visiting stcc.edu/stem-week.
The event is a collaboration with HSI STEM, the School of STEM and Dell Technologies.
“As the only technical community college in Massachusetts, we offer a unique array of STEM programs that serve as pathways to exciting careers at companies like Dell Technologies,” said Barbara Washburn, interim dean of the School of STEM at STCC. “Women, people of color, first-generation students, low-income individuals, English language learners, and people with disabilities are underrepresented in STEM industries. We’re hoping to change that by making the fields more inclusive. The speakers from Dell show that anyone who applies themselves can have a rewarding career in STEM. I think our students will be inspired by their stories.”
The theme for the third annual statewide STEM Week – “See Yourself in STEM” – is aimed at encouraging and supporting underrepresented youth, and especially people of color, to pursue STEM careers.
