STCC receives significant donation in lead up to major gifts campaign

Springfield Technical Community College dedicated the reading room in the library in memory of John W. Bennett, who named STCC the beneficiary of his life insurance policy. During a ceremony on June 14, STCC President John B. Cook thanked Bennett family members and friends who were on hand for the formal dedication of the Bennett Reading Room. STCC received $250,000 from the Bennett estate.

STCC announces spring 2019 dean’s list

Springfield Technical Community College congratulates the 952 students named to the spring 2019 dean’s list. The dean’s list is published each semester to recognize above-average academic performance. To be considered, degree-seeking students must earn 12 or more college level credits in the current semester or 12 or more combined college-level credits earned during the fall and spring semesters, and achieve a 3.3 or above grade point average.

College for Kids at STCC offers fun, educational experiences

Registration is open for College for Kids at Springfield Technical Community College, a summer program that exposes participants between 11 and 17 to learning opportunities available in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Some of the available programs focus on arts and sports.

Starting at STCC and then transferring to a four-year college or university will keep more money in the student’s pocket than enrolling directly at a four-year institution as a freshman. Data from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education shows precisely how much students will save by starting at STCC. A year of tuition and fees at STCC is $6,306. A year of tuition and fees at UMass is $16,278.

STCC rolls out Child Development Associate Plus program

Springfield Technical Community College this fall will launch a new certificate program to help early childhood educators or school paraprofessionals take their careers to the next level. The Child Development Associate Plus (CDA Plus) Certificate of Completion is designed for educators who want to get their Child Development Associate credential and earn college credit at the same time.

STCC students land internships at MIT Lincoln Laboratory

Two Springfield Technical Community College students this summer are working as interns at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, a U.S. Department of Defense research and development center in Lexington. MIT Lincoln Laboratory selected Douglas Bednarczyk, of West Springfield, and Shane Richardson, of Hebron, Conn., students from the Optics and Photonics Technology program at STCC. They will intern at the Lexington facility through August.

Put me in, coach! STCC DAY at Westfield Starfires baseball game set for June 21

Come out to the ballgame with Springfield Technical Community College on June 21. Faculty, staff and students from STCC will attend the game between the Starfires and the Pittsfield Suns at Bullens Field in Westfield. STCC President John B. Cook will throw out the first ceremonial pitch with hundreds of students from area vocational-technical high schools in attendance. These students received free tickets to the game, courtesy of the Starfires and STCC.

STCC will kick off online giving day to boost scholarships for students

The Springfield Technical Community College Foundation kicks off a new tradition on Wednesday, June 12, with its first online giving day. For 24 hours on June 12, people will have a chance to contribute through “STCC GIVES” and help build scholarships to ensure that students have the support they need to succeed.
