MAT-115 - Statistics

Descriptive methods of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and presenting categorical and numerical data. Elementary probability theory, estimation, and hypothesis testing. This course is transferable to four-year colleges.

Prerequisite(s)

MAT-061 or MAT-078 (minimum grade C-) or placement at higher level.

Problems

  1. Adult men have heights with a mean of 69.0 inches and a standard deviation of 2.8 inches. Find the z-score of a man 60.6 inches tall. (to 2 decimal places)

  2. You measure 36 randomly selected textbooks' weights and find they have a mean weight of 46 ounces. Assume the population standard deviation is 12.8 ounces. Based on this, construct a 95% confidence interval for the true population mean textbook weight.
Give your answers as decimals to two places.

  3. The p-value for a hypothesis test is 0.01251. At a 2% level of significance, what is the proper decision?
    1. Reject the null.
    2. Fail to reject the null.
