Mechanical Engineering Technology
Our Program
Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) is the practical application of mechanical engineering and scientific principles to design, manufacture, and inspect products.
State-of-the-art computer software, combined with STEM classes provide the graduate with a solid foundation in Design, Manufacturing, and Quality. Our hands-on approach requires less math than conventional engineering degrees and encompasses CNC machining. Graduates can obtain careers at any company that manufactures a product—from jet engines to medical devices.

The MET Lab, which is located at the STCC Technology Park, has industry-level equipment, materials, and top-notch instructors who will give you all the knowledge you will need to step into a well-paying manufacturing role immediately after graduating. With hands-on instruction as the focus and small class sizes, many of our students become leaders in their fields.

The Mechanical Engineering Technology Department at STCC created a 3D printing lab. New equipment complements existing rapid prototyping materials and technology already used by the manufacturing program.

Lineisha Dominicci-Rosario was determined to persist and get her degree. It helped that she found a strong support system at STCC. Her professors reached out to help her succeed whenever she was struggling. She befriended another student, also a young woman, who became a study partner.

STCC student joins steampunk wheelchair design project

STCC student Gabriel Luppi is teaming up with steampunk expert Bruce Rosenbaum and Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical School in Palmer to design a Quantum Power wheelchair that incorporates the visual aesthetics of steampunk, which combines history, art and technology to make inspiring, functional and personal products.

STCC receives $7.35 million in grants to enhance STEM education

Springfield Technical Community College has been awarded two grants worth more than $7 million from the U.S. Department of Education to boost student success among Latinx and low-income students in STEM fields, U.S. Rep. Richard Neal announced on Wednesday, Oct 6, during a visit to STCC.
