The Biology Transfer degree gives students a solid foundation in the basics of science with an emphasis on biology. Students completing the degree will be well prepared to transfer to a four-year program in biology at a college or university.
This program offers the background knowledge and hands-on experience required for the control of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment in commercial buildings with programmable controllers. These systems can also control lighting, security such as door locks and cameras, and building power data. Students will have hands-on experience with EasyIO and Niagara Controllers as well as courses in the Internet of Things and Cisco. The CNC Operations certificate is designed to provide students with basic operation and control of modern computer numerical control machinery. The CNC certificate prepares the student for an entry-level position in manufacturing companies in the greater Springfield—Hartford area. Students can enroll in the program either Fall or Spring, however, if the student wishes to complete the certificate in one year, it must be started in the fall.

The Optics and Photonics Technology Degree program prepares engineering technicians with the knowledge and skills of lasers, optics, and electronics needed to design, test and maintain complex optics and photonics systems.

Graduates of the MET program are prepared to compete in a competitive job market and assume a wide range of responsibilities in the precision manufacturing industry. The Medical Coding & Billing program prepares students for employment in hospitals, ambulatory centers, visiting nursing associations, insurance companies, physician offices, and many other health organizations as a medical coder/billing specialist. This program prepares the student to sit for the CCA exam with AHIMA or the CPC exam with the AAPC.
The healthcare profession is undergoing tremendous change. Trained professionals in medical coding, billing, and reimbursement are in high demand. The billing specialist provides information for reimbursement purposes, referral management, front desk services, as well as provides administrative support to the medical office.
Medical Laboratory Technicians perform tests in all departments of the clinical laboratory including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology. You will operate complex electronic equipment, computers and precision instruments. You will also be responsible for confirming the accuracy of test results and reporting laboratory findings. This 22 month program includes 4 semesters of classroom and on-campus laboratory work, as well as a 24 week clinical practicum. The program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Sciences.
Medical administrative assistants perform office duties in a hospital, medical office, or healthcare-related industry. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, handling incoming calls, scheduling patients, and operating computer systems. Students in this program complete courses in medical office management, electronic health records, medical terminology, and “soft skills” for career readiness and success.
Nurses provide and coordinate patient care, educate about health conditions, and provide support to patients and their families. The Registered Nurse at the associate degree level will be prepared for a career that provides compassionate care for all ages in a variety of health care settings. You will be taught to communicate effectively, provide health promotion and maintenance, and administer care to persons with health problems. The nursing program is approved and regulated by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN) and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Occupational Therapy Assistants help clients across the life span reach functional goals related to play, work, education and self- care. For example, you may help an individual who has had a stroke re-learn to dress him/herself, or may help a child with cerebral palsy learn to operate a computer with adapted equipment. This course of study prepares students as Administrative Assistants to act as the first point of contact for administrative activities in a workplace setting in collaboration with management. Students will acquire technical skills that support office operations and activities with a focus on continued technological advances that require the students’ agility and skill adaptation in the workplace. Students will take courses that will introduce the “soft skills” needed to interact professionally with management, coworkers, and clients to provide quality service. They will also enhance their written and verbal communication skills as well as develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, learn how to organize and communicate confidential and time sensitive material, and become proficient in a variety of software applications. This program encourages students to be lifelong learners and appreciate the continued technological advances that are apparent in the office environment.
Physical Therapist Assistants work as technical health care providers who work under the supervision of a physical therapist. You would perform movement-related activities and therapeutic techniques for patients with burns, amputations, spinal cord injuries and cardiac, neurologic and orthopedic injuries. Such techniques might include gait training, heat and cold applications, massage and the use of assistive, prosthetic and orthotic devices. This two year program leads to an Associate degree and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

Radiographers, also known as x-ray or radiologic technologists perform diagnostic imaging examinations, such as x rays, on patients. You will be trained to position patients, evaluate images for diagnostic quality, use appropriate radiation protection, apply appropriate technical skills and communicate effectively with patients. This 21 month program includes a 12 week summer clinical practicum. It is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. You would be eligible to take the national certification exam administered by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
Respiratory Care practitioners work closely with patients and other health care providers. You will acquire skills in the treatment, management, diagnosis and care of patients with cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Training will include the use of therapeutic gases, ventilator support, breathing exercises, aerosol administration, medications, humidification and maintenance of airways. You will likely work in a hospital however, opportunities exist in many areas of health care. This two year program includes a summer session and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.
The Social Media Strategy and Design Certificate of Completion program prepares students for careers in social media, including content creators, digital content producers, and social media designers. Students will create specific content for each social media platform to target and engage online viewers, building a community of followers. Students create social media campaigns and measure their effectiveness with analytics. Students take courses in digital imaging, graphic design, motion graphics, writing, marketing and advertising to enhance their social media strategy and design skills, providing a skill set that is currently very much in demand.

The Social Science Transfer major allows students to complete Mass Transfer A2B Pathways in History and Sociology, all in one singular program. Themes throughout this program include the balance of power in relationships, race, culture, and ethnicity, economic control of resources, and role of the government and citizenry.
The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
