YWCA to hold vigil at STCC in memory of domestic violence victims.
WHAT:
YWCA Candlelight Vigil in remembrance of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence. October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event, which will honor voices of survivors, will include a Display of the Clothesline Project from local survivors: www.clotheslineproject.org. Refreshments will be provided.
WHEN:
Thursday, Oct. 27, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Speakers will start at 6 p.m.
WHERE:
Springfield Technical Community College, 1 Armory St., Springfield, Campus Green in front of Building 2.
WHO:
Speakers to include Elizabeth G. Dineen, executive director of the the YWCA of Western Massachusetts; Shawn de Jong, STCC chief of police and director of public safety; domestic violence survivors, family of victims.
STATISTICS*:
Nearly 20 people per minute are abused physically by an intimate partner in the United States; one in three women and one in four men have been victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime; one in five women and one in seven men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
