STCC’s ‘Coffee for a Cause’ on GivingTuesday generates support for students
The community came out to help STCC students on GivingTuesday.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College hosted its inaugural “Coffee for a Cause” on GivingTuesday, Dec. 3, drawing members of the community to advance the college’s mission to support students as they transform their lives.
The event, held in the Building 15 parking lot and in front of Building 19 on the STCC campus, offered free coffee. Anyone who stopped by could offer a donation, with all proceeds going toward assisting STCC students.

From 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., faculty, staff, students and members of the community participated in this meaningful drive-thru initiative. The event raised funds to assist STCC students and support programs that serve them. Many students continue to struggle with the costs of food, technology and other essentials necessary for their academic success.
Launched in 2012, GivingTuesday, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is a significant global fundraising day for nonprofits.

Tonia Butler Perez, a member of the STCC Foundation board and a trustee of the college, expressed gratitude to all attendees and donors who helped make "Coffee for a Cause" a success.
“I would like to thank everybody for coming out for Coffee for a Cause on Giving Tuesday,” Butler Perez said, adding that the event underscores the college’s mission to uplift its students and foster community engagement.
Damion Harper ’05 volunteered to help with the event. He promoted Coffee for a Cause on social media.
“STCC has been an integral part of my upbringing,” Harper said. “While I attended STCC, I served in the military. The professors were very gracious about all of my deployments. They helped me with all of the scholarships. They gave so much for my upbringing, so I had to give back.”
