STCC Workforce Development Center announces upcoming training classes
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College’s Workforce Development Center is accepting applications for a variety of training programs that will start soon.

Emergency Medical Technician: Day or evening options available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, May 14-Aug. 1. This 171-hour program is designed to prepare students for the Massachusetts State Certification Examination. The EMT program provides a foundation in basic life support skills, techniques, patient assessment and safe transportation.
Certified Personal Trainer: Saturdays, May 12-June 23 (No class on Memorial Day weekend). This course is designed for future fitness professionals interested in helping individuals, communities and groups gain the benefits of participating in regular physical activity in a safe environment. Students can take certification exams after the course.
Professional Brewing Certificate: Saturdays, June 2-Aug. 18. The class, which focuses on the science and technology of becoming a professional brewer, is a blend of online work, hands-on lab work at STCC and conducted brewery tours. Total certificate time is 108 hours plus 15 hours of conducted brewery tours.
Phlebotomy Technician Certificate: Aug. 27-Dec. 10. This 166-hour program prepares students for the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam. A phlebotomist is a professionally trained and certified person who works in a healthcare facility and obtains blood specimens.
ServSafe Preparation: Saturdays, June 2, July 7, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This course, which includes six hours of classroom instruction and a two-hour exam, is designed to help restaurant professionals obtain their ServSafe Certificate to ensure their workplace meets industry standards for cleanliness along with proper safety requirements for food handling and preparation.
Medical Interpreting Certificate: Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 15-Aug. 2 This 60-hour class provides working knowledge of medical interpreting, including standards of practice, ethics, HIPAA regulations, cultural competency and medical terminology/vocabulary. It is open to all languages. Students must be bilingual and fluent in English and one other language.
CPR – Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers: May 18, June 22 and July 20; 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for each date. The course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
CPR – Basic Life Support Refresher: May 15, June 19 and July 7; 9 a.m. to noon for each date. The course is designed to refresh your training already obtained by the full CPR Basic Life Support course where you received certification in the lifesaving skills of both CPR and relief of choking.
Heartsaver First Aid: May 19, June 23 and July 21; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for each date. Heartsaver First Aid is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies.
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Plus Program CNA/CPR/HHA & Alzheimer’s: Monday-Thursdays, June 4-July 26. This 184-hour course offers training to become a certified nurse aide as well as home health aide training. Students who successfully complete this program will receive certification in CPR and learn about Alzheimer’s or related neurological disorders.
