Make an appointment now to ensure a spot at the STCC clinic on Oct. 14.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized use of the Pfizer vaccine including the booster, which is to be administered at least six months after completion of the first two doses.
The clinic, located in Garvey Hall near the Federal Street entrance of STCC, is open to the public and to students.
Students, faculty and staff at all 15 community colleges in Massachusetts must be fully vaccinated by Jan. 1, 2022 students. The colleges are seeking to increase the health and safety of the learning and working environment in light of the ongoing public health concerns and current guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Massachusetts Community Colleges are committed to ensuring vaccination status is not a barrier to students and will continue offering a range of virtual learning opportunities and services.
Health officials say the vaccination will help reduce the risk of getting sick from COVID-19. All COVID-19 vaccines available in the U.S. have been shown to be very effective.
Research shows that the vast majority of COVID-19 patients in hospitals are unvaccinated. People who were not fully vaccinated this spring and summer were more than 10 times more likely to be hospitalized and 11 times more likely to die of COVID-19 than those who were fully vaccinated, according to a CDC study published in September.
With 50 percent of its population vaccinated against COVID-19, the city of Springfield has one of the lowest vaccination rates in Massachusetts.
The vaccination is recommended to anyone 12 and older.
The single booster dose is to be administered six months after receiving the second Pfizer dose. Those currently eligible include:
- individuals 65 years of age and older;
- individuals 18 through 64 years of age at high risk of severe COVID-19; and
- individuals 18 through 64 years of age whose frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 puts them at high risk of serious complications of COVID-19 including severe COVID-19.
If you received the Moderna vaccine or Johnson & Johnson vaccine, it is not time for you to get a booster.
