STCC to feature photojournalist Ben Brody’s war images
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The war photographs of Ben Brody, of Southampton, will be on display Tuesday, Oct. 18, through Nov. 12, at Springfield Technical Community College’s Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery, located in Building 28 on the Pearl Street side of campus.
Brody’s exhibit is titled “Afghanistan: Endgame.”
Brody has focused primarily on the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. For more than 10 years he has photographed the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan while pioneering a unique visual approach conveying the absurdity and unintended consequences of those wars.
Brody primarily works for the nonprofit GroundTruth Project, seeking to read between the lines of America's endgame for its longest war. He contributed to FOREVERSTAN, an ambitious multimedia exploration of America's attempts to extricate itself from Afghanistan in an orderly fashion. Brody was recently a finalist for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, a LensCulture Exposure Award and was named to Photolucida's Critical Mass Top 50 for 2014.
The gallery is free, open to the public and handicapped accessible. Hours are as follows:
- Tuesday-Friday 12:30 - 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday 10:00- 2:00 pm
- Or by appointment
Brody will speak about his work during a reception on Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. Visit www.photobrody.com to view Brody’s photographs.
