SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College’s student radiology team placed first at the 2019 Massachusetts Society of Radiologic Technologists Buzz Bowl competition, which was part of the 88th Annual Conference.
With six community colleges participating, Buzz Bowl challenges students’ knowledge in the field of radiologic technology. STCC’s seven-member team did not lose a match in the competition which features “Jeopardy” like questions. Competitors chose among five categories: safety, image production, radiographic procedures, patient care and trivia.
The Massachusetts Society of Radiologic Technologist hosted the event in Leominster April 10-12.
“It helps them prepare for the boards, but it’s also a fun event,” said Sheryl Fullen, assistant professor and program director for Medical Imaging – Radiological Technologies at STCC.
Students who participated in the competition included Brian Griffin, of Springfield, Kurt Reeter, of Ludlow, Briana Rudman, of Windsor, Conn., Hillary Ladeau, of Granby, Selenia Hernandez, of Springfield, Julie Korman, of Springfield and Sabrina Provost, of Granville.
“We’re proud of these hard-working students and the faculty who have helped prepare them to excel in the competition,” said Christopher Scott, dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation. “Their performance reflects the quality of our Radiologic Technology program and the dedication of the faculty.”
The two-year radiologic technology program trains students to become radiographers, or X-ray or radiologic technologists who perform imaging examinations on patients. For more information, visit stcc.edu/explore/programs/dmir.as/.
