STCC seeks support for students on GivingTuesday Nov. 30
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College is asking for help on Nov. 30, which is GivingTuesday, an annual fundraising initiative that opens the doors of opportunity for students.
The STCC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps the college goals and commitment to provide superior educational opportunities in the community, is seeking financial gifts from alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends.
"The work of the Foundation is central to the core mission of the college and truly helps STCC to transform lives," said Dr. Shai Butler, Interim Vice President for Advancement & External Affairs.
For 2021, the focus is “$20 for 20,” said Kelly Galanis, director of Operations & Donor Relations at STCC. A $20 donation will help the health sciences programs in Building 20.
“This pandemic taught us that health sciences are more important than ever, and your gift of $20 will help STCC support the nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), and other health sciences programs which benefit our community,” Galanis said. “Best of all, you are helping hard-working students achieve their goals. Your GivingTuesday donation to STCC makes that life-changing experience possible. Where else can a $20 donation get you so much?”

The Foundation suggests other STCC-related gift-giving ideas:
- $19.67 in honor of the year STCC was founded
- $35 for the number of acres the college uses at the historic Springfield Armory site
- $55 in honor of the college’s upcoming 55th anniversary in 2022.
Individual gifts will be bundled with others to help students afford the education and transformation they seek, Galanis said.
Jennifer Brown, president of the STCC Foundation Board of Directors, said students need support now more than ever.
“The pandemic has been difficult for everyone, and STCC students have been particularly hit hard,” Brown said. “Many come from low-income families and have lost income. But if they can get a degree from STCC, they can find good-paying, rewarding careers. Your gift will go directly toward the college’s mission to support students as they transform their lives.”
GivingTuesday was launched in 2012 as a simple idea: to create a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
People demonstrate generosity in many ways on GivingTuesday. Whether it’s helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving to causes we care about, every act of generosity counts. GivingTuesday has raised billions of dollars for critical causes around the world and gets 14.2 billion impressions on social media from people and organizations speaking up for the causes that matter to them and encouraging others to get involved.
"GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to drive progress around the causes they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year." said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder. "With country and community leaders, millions of organizations, and countless givers of all kinds, GivingTuesday is creating a shared space where we can see the radical implications of a more generous world."
