STCC partners with Indian Orchard Citizens Council for HiSET/GED classes
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College will bring free adult education classes directly to Indian Orchard residents through a collaboration with the Indian Orchard Citizens Council.
The in-person classes to prepare for HiSET/GED exams will be offered Monday through Thursdays, 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., at the Indian Orchard Citizens Council, 117 Main St., Springfield, said Gladys Franco, Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development at STCC.
“This is a fantastic opportunity with two highly trained instructors to help support you with getting your HiSET and GED,” Franco said.
Indian Orchard Citizens Council President Zaida Govan, a Springfield city councilor, thanked STCC and the citizens council board for collaborating.
“Having this collaboration with STCC has been a dream of mine for a while now,” Govan said. “The residents of Indian Orchard don’t have access to a lot of resources. This is a great opportunity for them to get their HISET and become more marketable for the jobs that are out there.”

HiSET/GED classes prepare students interested in college for the academic challenges of college-level courses and for the challenges of entering employment. Both the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) and the General Educational Development (GED) exams are used to award a high school equivalency diploma.
Students can expect small class sizes in a supportive learning environment with learners of all backgrounds. The evening classes allow for convenient scheduling to fit around work and other commitments.
