STCC medical assistant program ranked 3rd best in Mass.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College’s medical assistant program was listed as the third best in Massachusetts among the Top Accredited Medical Assistant Programs and Schools in Massachusetts for 2021, according to the website Find Medical Assistant Programs.
The website gave STCC’s program a high ranking based on its affordability, number of courses, student-faculty ratio and retention rates, among other criteria.
Over the past year, the Medical Assistant program at STCC has won praise from other websites that rank programs. In 2020, Medicalassistantadvice.com listed STCC as having the best medical assistant program in Massachusetts. STCC was listed as No. 1, beating out other community college and training programs in the state. Another website, MedAssistantEDU.org, rated the program as the most affordable in the Commonwealth.
“I’m thrilled the program is once again being recognized as one of the best in Massachusetts,” said Christopher Scott, dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation. “The program offers an affordable pathway to a rewarding career. The quality of instruction is unmatched. I’m proud of our faculty, who are dedicated to helping the students succeed.”
Karolyn Ryan, program director and associate professor in the medical assisting department, said the faculty is excited to know the program is ranked among the best.
“We’re proud of the work we do to train students and help fill the demand for skilled workers in the healthcare field,” Ryan said.
The medical assistant program at STCC offers a “one-plus-one” option, which means students in the program obtain a certificate after one year of successful coursework. They can either enter the workforce or continue another year in the program to pursue an associate degree.
Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical skills in a variety of health care settings such as physicians’ offices, outpatient clinics, laboratories, and hospitals.
The STCC medical assistant certificate program is accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB). Not all programs in the state have received accreditation.
