STCC Dental Hygiene Clinic to offer free basic services for community through March
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic is accepting appointments for free preventative treatment for children and adults through March 31, 2022.
The clinic on the campus of STCC usually charges a nominal fee, but the School of Health and Patient Simulation decided to waive fees on certain treatments for two months as a service to the community as it did last year.
The clinic in the Health Science Building (Building 20, Room 238) on the STCC campus is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The clinic is closed on Wednesdays.
“The $35 fee is waived for prophylaxis (teeth cleaning), exams and bitewing x-rays,” said Meg Loadholt, the Dental Hygiene program coordinator. “We are excited to be able to offer this service to the community. We also offer other treatments, including sealants, whitening trays, nightguards, and full mouth x-rays at very nominal fees.”
The clinic offers comprehensive oral health care provided by STCC dental hygiene students under the direction of licensed dental hygienists and dentists. Services are provided in the Health Science Building (Building 20), Room 238.
Martin Wohl, DDS, chair of the Valley District Dental Society and one of the dentists who supervises students, said community members who use the clinic will receive excellent care at the region's premier training center for dental team members.
“I hope community members take full advantage of such a valuable resource for as long as it can be available. In addition, the training of every student will be greatly enhanced,” Wohl said.
The clinic adheres to strict safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. STCC requires masks to be worn while indoors on campus. In addition, students and employees at STCC are complying with a vaccine mandate. Both students and faculty wear masks. Students using ultrasonic scalers must wear face shields.
