Plug in to STCC’s Electrical Training Program
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College will offer an electrical apprenticeship program with four levels of classes beginning Sept. 13.
All apprentices who enter the trade must complete 600 hours of classroom instruction. Each of the four courses consists of 168 classroom hours, and completion of the four classes will meet the requirement of the Massachusetts Board of Electrical Examiners.
The classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., between Sept. 13 and March 30. STCC also offers a Master Electrician Class on Mondays and Wednesday evenings beginning Sept. 12.
STCC and the George W. Gould Construction Institute or Woburn are working as partners in the presentation of the electrical apprenticeship program. The National Center for Construction Education and Research developed the curriculum, which is published by Prentice Hall and is a nationally recognized, standardized competency-based program.
Students who register with STCC will receive a transcript from the college verifying the number of hours completed.
Barbara Lagergren, president of George W. Gould Construction Institute, said now is an ideal time start the electrical training program.
“Construction is projected to grow quickly over the next decade and can also make for a rewarding and lucrative career,” Lagergren said.
Paul Sheehan, director of Workforce Development at STCC, said the electrical training program provides an affordable pathway to a career as an electrician.
“We are excited to partner with the George W. Gould Construction Institute and present this valuable training program,” Sheehan said. “We encourage anyone interested to contact us as soon before classes fill up.”
