Success at STCC: Frank Quigley reflects on service to college

Frank Quigley enjoys giving back to the college that inspired him throughout his career. After serving for five years, he stepped down this year from his position as vice chairman and the alumni representative to the STCC Board of Trustees. Since 2010, he has served as a member of the STCC Foundation Board of Directors, including serving as president of the board. He continues to serve on the Foundation Board.

STCC to hold fall virtual Open House in October

Springfield Technical Community College will hold its annual fall Open House on two dates, Oct. 14, 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., and Oct. 15, 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m., in a virtual format. High school students, adult learners and their family members can log in to Zoom and meet virtually with representatives from the college’s degree and certificate programs and departments.

STCC to offer dental radiology certificate course on Oct. 6

Springfield Technical Community College on Oct. 6 will offer two-week dental radiology certificate training for dental assistants, the only program of its kind west of Boston. This intensive two-week hybrid (online and clinical component) course trains dental assistants in the fundamentals of dental radiography. The course will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:45 p.m.-9 p.m., Oct. 6, 8, 13 and 15.

STCC marks 15th anniversary of the Diversity Series with fall lineup

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the Springfield Technical Community College fall Diversity Series kicks off Sept. 21 at 12:15 p.m. with a talk by writer, activist and comedian Baratunde Thurston. Thurston, an Emmy-nominated host who has worked for The Onion, produced for The Daily Show, advised for the Obama White House and wrote the New York Times bestseller “How To Be Black,” will speak to STCC students and the community through a Zoom webinar.

STCC Dental Hygiene clinic makes adjustments during COVID-19

The Dental Hygiene clinic at Springfield Technical Community College continues to offer affordable cleanings and examinations, but has made adjustments to ensure safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The clinic on the campus of STCC this fall is open to patients Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., and 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

STCC offers flexible option to start classes on Oct. 28

Springfield Technical Community College’s traditional fall semester begins right after Labor Day, but STCC also offers Flex Term options for prospective students. The college is accepting applications for Fall Flex Term 2, which runs Oct. 28-Dec. 16. The condensed seven-week term includes classes from a range of academic disciplines at STCC.

STCC offers high school equivalency class with a medical science focus

For the first time, Springfield Technical Community College this fall will offer a course that helps students get their high school equivalency diploma while introducing them to the field of medical science. Offered through the Springfield Adult Learning Center at STCC, the class, called HiSET/GED to Medical Sciences, prepares students for the high school equivalency test (HiSET/GED).
