STCC receives donation of feminine products to assist students

Springfield Technical Community College’s Center for Access Services received a donation of Always brand feminine hygiene pads to help students who are struggling financially through the pandemic. Always offered to donate several pallets of women’s pads to the STCC food pantry, known as the Ram Cupboard. Stop & Shop, which has made previous food gift card donations worth $13,500, contacted STCC to ask if the college would be interested in the feminine products.

STCC’s affordable online ‘winter session’ starts Dec. 23

Springfield Technical Community College will offer a four-week online winter session in December, an affordable opportunity for college students whether they’re enrolled at STCC or another school. The session runs Wednesday, Dec. 23, through Tuesday, Jan. 19. Registration for current students opens Nov. 18. Registration for new students begins Nov. 23.

Wellness, fitness and women leadership highlighted at STCC events

Springfield Technical Community College will host a wellness and fitness retreat and an event featuring women leaders on Nov. 18 and 19 at 12:15 p.m. The free virtual online Zoom events are open to the community as well as STCC students, faculty and staff. Lidya Rivera-Early, director of Community Engagement at STCC, said the wellness and fitness retreat will be an opportunity to learn tips for improving mental and physical health.

STCC virtual event to explore health, wealth and race

Why does COVID-19 have a particularly devastating impact on Black communities? How does your neighborhood impact your health? How does racism impact health outcomes? These are some of the questions a Springfield Technical Community College professor will raise during a live webinar on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Titled “Health, Wealth and Race,” the event will feature a presentation by Dr. Raja Staggers, assistant professor in Social & Behavioral Sciences at STCC.

Springfield Technical Community College won four medals at this year’s District 1 National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR) Medallion Awards. The Medallion Awards recognize excellence in design and communication at community colleges within the district, which covers the Northeast, parts of eastern Canada and the United Kingdom.

STCC professor wins Journalism Award for engineering articles, raising STEM awareness

Springfield Technical Community College Professor Beth McGinnis-Cavanaugh won the 2020 Journalism Award from Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. McGinnis-Cavanaugh received the award for numerous articles and her efforts at raising awareness of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and the importance of the civil engineering profession, according to a letter from Richard D. Maher, BSCES past president.

The Workforce Development Center at Springfield Technical Community College has launched Career Services, a resource for students and alumni interested in job-seeking strategies and other valuable tools to connect with employers. STCC also is unveiling an internet tool called Career Coach (stcc.edu/career-coach) to help people determine their career path.
