STCC Diversity Series to host artist, author and ‘cookie activist’ Jasmine M. Cho

Springfield Technical Community College Diversity Speaker and Performance series will host Pittsburgh-based artist, author and activist Jasmine M. Cho in a virtual format on April 14 at 12:15 p.m. Cho, a self-described “cookie activist,” puts faces onto cookies she bakes to elevate representation for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She is also a Food Network champion and the founder of an online bakery called Yummyholic.

STCC ranked No. 2 for popular online business degrees in New England

Springfield Technical Community College’s online business degree program was ranked as the second most popular in the New England region, according to Business Degree Central, an online resource for students. The website ranked STCC’s program No. 2 out of 11 colleges in New England. The business program was also ranked second most popular in Massachusetts.

STCC students build camera obscuras in their homes during lockdown

Four sections of students in her introduction to photography course – two in the fall semester and two more in the spring – basically built dark rooms in their homes. Technically speaking, the students built a camera obscura (Latin for dark chamber or dark room) which is a box-like device (or an entire room) that lets light inside to reflect images from outside in much the same way a camera works.

Yet very few of them know about the U.Fund 529 college savings accounts, so named for the section (529) of the Internal Revenue Code that authorized them. While some people start them when their children are babies, it’s actually never really too late to start a 529 plan. STCC to host Tibetan Monks as virtual event on Feb. 25

Springfield Technical Community College invites the public to join students and participate in a virtual ceremony featuring the Tibetan Monks on Feb. 25 at noon. The monks will present live from India directly to the STCC community. Their virtual stop at STCC is part of The Mystical Arts of Tibet Tours with The Drepung Loseling Monks.
