STCC Dental Hygiene Clinic to offer free treatment for 2 months

Springfield Technical Community College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic will offer free preventative treatment for children and adults in February and March. The clinic on the campus of STCC usually charges a nominal fee for services, but the college decided to waive fees for two months to help the community, many of whom are facing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

STCC partners with Head Start to create online preschool

STCC students enrolled in an early childhood education degree or certificate program are required to spend 150 hours teaching in the field under the guidance of mentor teachers. Prior to pandemic shut-downs, they logged those hours in a variety of settings: family child care operations, private childcare programs, public school preschool programs and federally funded Head Start centers.

STCC to offer certified auto damage appraiser course in March

Springfield Technical Community College will offer a certified auto damage appraiser course for insurance claims professionals and auto body technicians beginning March 1. The 60-hour course is the first step to becoming an auto damage appraiser in Massachusetts. The training through STCC’s Workforce Development Center prepares students for the exam to be a licensed appraiser.

STCC to reinstate programs

Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) will restore five programs that were discontinued last year in response to projected budget shortfalls brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The STCC Board of Trustees voted Monday to support biomedical engineering technology, biotechnology, civil engineering technology, dental assisting, and landscape design and management.

Registration open for STCC dental radiology course

Springfield Technical Community College is accepting applications for an intensive two-week dental radiology certificate training for dental assistants, the only program of its kind west of Boston. This hybrid (online and clinical component) course, which opens Feb. 1 at 9 a.m., trains dental assistants in the fundamentals of dental radiography. The labs will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:45 p.m.-8:45 p.m., Feb. 8 and 10 and Feb. 17 and 17.

STCC makes green energy investment with charging stations for electric vehicles

Springfield Technical Community College has installed two electric vehicle (EV) charging ports in one of the campus’ parking lots as part of an effort to reduce fossil fuel emissions and encourage green energy. The charging stations are in operation and available for use by the public as well as students, faculty and staff at STCC. Each charging station can accommodate two vehicles.
