STCC named best 2-year college in Valley Advocate 2021 Readers’ Poll

For the second year in a row, Springfield Technical Community College captured best two-year college in the Valley Advocate’s reader poll. STCC landed on the Advocate’s “best of” list in the same year the college was named fourth best in the United States by Academic Influence. The Valley Advocate released results of its 2021 readers’ poll on April 29.

STCC students recognized for entrepreneurial spirit

Springfield Technical Community College student Kasey Carter drew inspiration for an award-winning business idea from her four-legged friend named Luna. Carter, of Enfield, Conn., created Little Legs & Co. to provide affordable, unique bandanas for dogs. She describes herself as a full-time nursing student at STCC and “dog mom” to her corgi.

Springfield Technical Community College professor Gary Mullett was named a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the highest grade for the professional organization for electrical and electronic engineers.

STCC to honor 2021 graduates with campus drive-through parade

Springfield Technical Community College will celebrate the Class of 2021 with a drive-through parade on June 3 at 4 p.m. Because campus access is restricted during the COVID-19 pandemic, graduates must register in advance to join the parade. Visit stcc.edu/commencement to find a link to register.

STCC students present COVID-19 research at statewide conference

More than 60 Springfield Technical Community College students on April 23 joined the Massachusetts Undergraduate Research Conference (MassURC), which united more than 900 undergraduate students from colleges and universities within the Commonwealth. Students from STCC’s STEM Starter Academy presented 31 research posters. The team that won at STCC’s Sustainathon Research competition earlier in the spring worked on a project titled “COVID-19 Impacts on the Environment.”

STCC medical assistant program ranked 3rd best in Mass.

Springfield Technical Community College’s medical assistant program was listed as the third best in Massachusetts among the Top Accredited Medical Assistant Programs and Schools in Massachusetts for 2021, according to the website Find Medical Assistant Programs.

After decades of addiction, student draws inspiration from STCC

This spring, Kimberly Quinonez will reach a goal she once thought was impossible: She will have a college degree. When she first came to Springfield Technical Community College in 2014, Quinonez was 43 years old and had recently spent a year in a substance abuse recovery program. She had battled decades of addiction. She didn’t have a high school diploma. But she was determined to get an education. She found the support she needed at STCC.
