STCC Shays’ Rebellion website serves as valuable resource for schools, historians

The Shays' Rebellion website, developed in 2006 with funding STCC received from the National Endowment for the Humanities, recently was upgraded and made more accessible to the public. The website provides a wealth of information for educators and historians throughout the country.

STCC Dental Hygiene Clinic extends free treatment through April

Springfield Technical Community College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic will continue to offer free preventative treatment for children and adults through April. The clinic on the campus of STCC started offering free treatment in February. STCC usually charges a nominal fee for services, but the college decided to waive fees to help the community, many of whom are facing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Student finds the right fit at STCC after a semester at elite 4-year college

After spending a semester at Amherst College, Christopher Goossens transferred to Springfield Technical Community College. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with the STCC experience. He settled into one of the classes in the Digital Media Production program at the beginning of the spring semester in 2020. His spirit soared. He had spent the previous fall semester at one of the most prestigious four-year institutions in the nation, but felt it wasn’t the right fit.

STCC professors honored as Endowed Chairs for 2021

Springfield Technical Community College honored two faculty members as this year’s 2021 Endowed Chairs, awards named for two of the college’s founders. In a video sent to the STCC campus community, President John B. Cook congratulated this year’s recipients: Professors Ann-Marie Simao, of Charlton, and Joshua Carreiro, of Northampton.

STCC Diversity Series to host artist, author and ‘cookie activist’ Jasmine M. Cho

Springfield Technical Community College Diversity Speaker and Performance series will host Pittsburgh-based artist, author and activist Jasmine M. Cho in a virtual format on April 14 at 12:15 p.m. Cho, a self-described “cookie activist,” puts faces onto cookies she bakes to elevate representation for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. She is also a Food Network champion and the founder of an online bakery called Yummyholic.

STCC ranked No. 2 for popular online business degrees in New England

Springfield Technical Community College’s online business degree program was ranked as the second most popular in the New England region, according to Business Degree Central, an online resource for students. The website ranked STCC’s program No. 2 out of 11 colleges in New England. The business program was also ranked second most popular in Massachusetts.

STCC students build camera obscuras in their homes during lockdown

Four sections of students in her introduction to photography course – two in the fall semester and two more in the spring – basically built dark rooms in their homes. Technically speaking, the students built a camera obscura (Latin for dark chamber or dark room) which is a box-like device (or an entire room) that lets light inside to reflect images from outside in much the same way a camera works.
