New dean at STCC makes a connection with her students

Kiyota Garcia started working at STCC in 2010, and has taken on various leadership roles over the past 11 years. Recently named Dean of Student Initiatives, Garcia is responsible for administration, leadership and management of services that directly relate to student support. Garcia relates to students and hopes that her background can inspire them to do their best. Garcia is the first in her family to graduate from college and the eldest of five children.

Art gallery’s Covid exhibition features work by STCC faculty and visual artist

The Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery at Springfield Technical Community College presents “The Covid Series” by STCC art faculty member Paul Bloomfield through March 31. Bloomfield, who teaches painting and drawing at STCC, started his series of paintings in the spring of 2020, the early days of the pandemic, and has continued working on the art.

When she graduated from Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School in South Hadley, Sydney Rachael Levin-Epstein knew she would one day pursue a bachelor’s degree from a four-year university. She did get a bachelor’s in political science from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. But before she enrolled at GWU, she decided to take several classes at Springfield Technical Community College.

Classes start March 22 for STCC spring semester ‘flex term’
Date: Thursday, March 10, 2022
For those who need flexibility when taking classes, Springfield Technical Community College offers a spring semester flex term that allows students to begin the semester later than the usual start time in January. The seven-week “flex term” for spring 2022 runs March 22 through May 13. The term is half as long as the traditional 14-week semester. This means students can complete two courses in the time it takes to finish one traditional course.
