Springfield Technical Community College helped employers get “back to business” with a spring career and transfer fair that connected company representatives with students, alumni and friends of STCC. The college on March 30 held its spring Back to Business Career and Transfer Fair, which was free for attendees who were looking for their next career move or seeking information about transferring to a four-year institution.

Thanks to scholarships and financial aid, Springfield Technical Community College student Salman Nadeem is paying almost nothing out of his pocket to get a high-quality education. Nadeem, 19, who hopes to one day be a nurse, comes from a low-income family and would not be able to go to college without financial help.

STCC student Gabriel Luppi is teaming up with steampunk expert Bruce Rosenbaum and Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical School in Palmer to design a Quantum Power wheelchair that incorporates the visual aesthetics of steampunk, which combines history, art and technology to make inspiring, functional and personal products.

Kiyota Garcia started working at STCC in 2010, and has taken on various leadership roles over the past 11 years. Recently named Dean of Student Initiatives, Garcia is responsible for administration, leadership and management of services that directly relate to student support. Garcia relates to students and hopes that her background can inspire them to do their best. Garcia is the first in her family to graduate from college and the eldest of five children.
