Food Bank of Western Massachusetts adds STCC as member agency

Springfield Technical Community College has become the first college in Massachusetts to join the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts as a member agency. Starting in October 2023, STCC will be a part of the region’s food assistance network, and the first college to become a member, according to the Food Bank.

STCC Board of Trustees chair Marikate Murren steps down

The Springfield Technical Community College Board of Trustees on Sept. 25 said farewell to chair Marikate Murren who decided to step down after serving on the board for seven years. Murren, who has served on the board since 2016, was appointed chair by Governor Charlie Baker in 2019. She submitted her resignation in a letter to Governor Maura Healey on Sept. 8. STCC names 2 nursing professors as 2023 Endowed Chairs

Springfield Technical Community College honored two nursing professors with awards that recognize excellence in teaching and a commitment to the college’s mission. The college selected Donna Mae Jones as the 2023 Joseph J. Delisio Sr. Endowed Chair and Donna Woshinsky as the 2023 Anthony M. Scibelli Endowed Chair. The awards are named for two of the college’s founders.

STCC launched academic career for School of STEM’s new assistant dean

Melishia Santiago first came to Springfield Technical Community College to take an English as a Second Language class. Her goal was to learn English and then pursue a college degree. Some 20 years later, Santiago has returned to STCC a bilingual professional with a doctorate and new position as the assistant dean of the School of STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Math). Dr. Santiago started the position in June 2023.
