Introduction to Open Educational Resources

When: 9/24/24, 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Location: Hybrid event. In person: Putnam Hall (B17) room 210

Want to support STCC students by reducing the burden of costly textbooks? Open Educational Resources may be the solution. Open Educational Resources are free learning materials— anything from individual assignments to full textbooks—which you are legally allowed to use and distribute. OERs can be combined and even revised to best suit your course. Replacing costly textbooks with free materials not only saves students money, but ensures that all students have equal access to their course materials from day one. This presentation will provide an introduction to Open Educational Resources: what they are, why they matter, and where they can be found. Participants will leave with a basic understanding of the best practices for using open and free materials for their courses. Even if you are not ready to convert your courses to ‘Zero Textbook Cost,’ increasing your understanding of OER can help you advocate for STCC students. Bring any questions you have about OER.
