College Policy on Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity & Diversity (PAA)
The PAA is a statewide policy adopted by the Board of Trustees of Community Colleges to promote nondiscrimination. At STCC we foster a climate of purposeful inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with each other. We value the diversity of humanity; a diversity which includes the protected classifications of:
Age, Color, Disability, Ethnicity, Gender, Gender Identity, Genetic Information, National Origin, Persons of Color, Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation and Veteran status.
While not specifically referenced, additional protections exist through federal and/or state laws and are incorporated within the PAA. Accordingly, discrimination based on ethnic hairstyles, gender expression, pregnancy and/or parental leave, sex stereotypes, sex characteristics and sexual orientation, among other types of discrimination are prohibited. Prohibited conduct is defined in the PAA and includes:
Discrimination, Discriminatory Harassment, Retaliation and Sexual Harassment.
