Climbing the Mountain of Software Licensing - A User Group Session on Keyserver and K2

DATE: December 1, 2009

TIME: 9:00 - 3:00 (Coffee and Registration start at 8:00)

   PRICE: NERCOMP Members: $90, Non-Members: $215

LOCATION: The College of the Holy Cross Worcester, MA.

DESCRIPTION:
As expenses at our institutions continue to require strict control, one place that is often overlooked is the volume of software application licenses that we purchase. Why buy another license when you may be under-utilizing what you already own‌ With the added possibility of being audited and incurring substantial financial penalties, license management is a real place to reduce and/or contain costs.

Many of us use Keyserver, the very popular license management utility made by Sassafras, to leverage the number of and control usage of software licenses. However, it is more than just a simple metering tool. The day will be a giant User Group meeting led by John Tomeny from Sassafras Software. This will be a technical presentation, NOT a marketing show. Included will be new functionality in K2 v6.2 with special attention to: how to best make use of lease licenses; using Divisions, Groups, Filters, and Rules; managing multiple versions of a program; multiple license entitlements for the same program; conceptual differences of software product management vs. software program management; and lab management, scheduling, and license reservations. Bring your questions, real-world issues and be prepared to learn more of what Keyserver can do for you and your institution.
